Do you sometimes ask yourself, “Have I even had any water today?” Or do you know that feeling of “forgetting” to drink water at work? – If so, you’re far from alone

It is important to drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated and ensure that your body’s organs function properly. Adequate fluid intake is essential, as water helps regulate body temperature, transports nutrients, and improves digestion. In addition, drinking water can help prevent fatigue and headaches. If you’re dehydrated, you may feel uncomfortable—but you’ll also be less productive at work.

How much water is recommended to drink per day?

The body’s fluids evaporate and are used up throughout the day, so it is recommended that you drink 1–1½ liters of water daily—which is equivalent to 6–8 glasses of water. Water is best absorbed when you spread your intake throughout the day—this ensures good fluid balance.

Although most types of fluids help maintain proper hydration, there are some beverages you should avoid or limit, such as alcohol, soda, and other sugary drinks. It is also recommended that you limit your coffee intake and occasionally replace a cup of coffee with a glass of water instead. In short, your fluid intake should consist of as much water as possible.

Since most people spend many hours a day at work, it’s important to make sure you’re drinking enough water. It’s especially easy to forget to drink water when you’re busy or if it’s not readily available. Some of the most common signs of dehydration include headaches, fatigue, lack of concentration, dizziness—and, of course, THIRST.

If you tend to get dehydrated or forget to drink water, you may find these tips and strategies helpful:

  • Drink as soon as you feel thirsty—and make sure most of it is water
  • Spread your fluid intake throughout the day so you stay hydrated
  • Keep a water bottle at your workstation
  • Replace some of your coffee with a glass of water
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, as they contain fluids
  • Remember to drink more water when you're physically active or when it's hot

With these tips and recommendations, you can easily improve your well-being by staying healthy and hydrated at work—while also preventing the negative effects of dehydration.
